Let it Snow

Hello once again everyone!

I hope everyone is enjoying the winter weather in Vancouver.

I got up a few days ago in the morning only to see this……….

snow

I guess it makes sense with the Christmas holiday season arriving on time.

Well most of my finals have now been completed except for one. While the rest of my peers get to enjoy the holidays. A few of us will be stuck with a single class till December 20th. Our instructor was away for 2 weeks in November, which now means our class has to be extended for 2 weeks. So much fun right!? I guess it also means we can take it easy with just one class per a week. Hey, that’s better than having 4+ courses per a week plus work right?

The other day I read something interesting on the web here à(http://www.theguardian.com/education/mortarboard/2013/nov/22/universities-twitter-engage-with-students). The article looks at social networking for universities, and luckily BCIT uses social media quite a lot. It made me wonder how many BCIT students and other educational institutions use social media? and to what extent.

I personally use twitter and facebook to get updates on recent BCIT news and announcements. Just like the other day, when it ended up snowing quite a lot. I did check to see if the campus would be closed for the day. It’s also a great way to get quick news rather than large emails every month. I normally only used social networking to stay in touch with people. But, I think it’s also a great way to get information on news. I mean how many of us have time to watch the news every second of the day? So twitter and facebook pretty much delivers a snippet of the news to us so easily. I guess the question is how many BCIT students use social media for news vs. checking the website.  Hmmm…

As the holidays are arriving, I hope everyone else is looking forward to the holidays, or at least the break in between our semesters. Most students in the Forensics program will only get about 2- 2.5 weeks off before our next load of classes.  I’m looking forward to the good food and being able to spend time with family and friends. And, who knows, maybe it will snow a little just to set the Holiday mood once again! Just as long as it doesn’t snow us indoor for a week!

Well that’s all I got for today, and I’ll place updates as my time “away” from school activities take place.
